Macworld ran a list a list of 6 tips for getting more from your Apple TV that was very helpful.

  1. Update your software
  2. Move icons around
  3. Sign up for (some) pay subscriptions directly
  4. The Menu button is your friend
  5. Download the Apple Remote app
  6. See the highest-quality video you can

For me numbers 2, 5 and 6 made a lot of sense.

Moving the icons arouns was a great idea that allowed me to configure the order of the content that I used most near the top. As an add on tip there are many icons you can hide via the parental controls portion of the settings which made the screen even easier to navigate.

There was a time before blocs when I would loose my Apple TV remote on a daily basis, it can still happen if you ahve children in the house, so I tried out the Apple Rempote application for my iPhone. It took a little getting used to but does wrok very well. Last week this application was updated providing more functionality.

Number 6 seems obvious, right? But when I looked back at my settings on the Apple TV I had configured it for 1080p but my second generation Apple TV was designed for the maximum of 720p. I think there was no harm but it seems to be faster and have less buffereing issues now.
